showing up ✷ day one

Replacing conventional social media starts with a blog!

~~~
Hey friends! Thanks for stopping by! If you are new here, welcome! I’m Nia. I make cute art on the internet and love exploring all kinds of mediums. :-)
This is my first go at a more “traditional” art blog. It’s a bit wordier than what I imagine future posts will be, but I wanted to use this entry to set the tone. I know blogging might seem like a relic of the past, but I’m trying to see it as a chance to reconnect with something I’ve been missing from my own practice: authentic documentation.
Earlier this year, I made the difficult decision to step away from platforms like Instagram and Twitter. I had set out on a journey to become an “influencer,” and while there were aspects of it I enjoyed, I quickly realized how exhausting the constant chase for likes, followers, and validation can be. It’s a slippery slope—and at some point, I stopped feeling like an artist and started feeling like a content machine.
I don’t want to be my own marketer or publicist. I just want to make the art.
So here I am, starting a sketchblog!
What’s a sketchblog?
It’s a space for all my doodles, traditional and digital. I’ve been craving a place to share the process, not just the polished final pieces. Addittionally, I really miss the spontaneity of what social media used to be. Make the art and POST it. No worrying about a fanciful roll out or perfecting the perfect caption. So I want to use my sketchblog as a space to explore my low-stakes art and document my practice as things come to me.
I hope you’re excited to follow along! I’m aiming for a weekly format at the very least—but we’ll see what life has in store. But we’ll see! These things are best felt out and refined over time.
Thank you for reading! If peeking into my sketchbook sounds like your kind of thing, consider subscribing for updates straight to your inbox. :-)
